Joaquin Phoenix and the Weight Loss for Joker
Joaquin Phoenix lost approximately 52 pounds for his role as Arthur Fleck in Todd Phillips's 2019 movie *Joker*. He worked with a physician to develop the regimen and has spoken about the mental toll of severely cutting calories, telling Vanity Fair it changed his movement and thought during filming. His performance garnered him the Academy Award for Best Actor. Phoenix had made similar physical changes before, such as gaining weight for 2010's *I'm Still Here* and losing it for *The Master* in 2012. For the 2024 sequel, *Joker: Folie à Deux*, he again reduced his weight, relying on the same medical team to oversee it.
